Lowes however admits that he and his Samsung Honda team have work to do ahead of the first of the three races tomorrow (Saturday), if they are to repeat their winning ride from Seat Covers the previous visit to the circuit in May. Lowes who held a 0.027 seconds advantage over Byrne, reflected: “We have to improve the feel and handling of the rear of the bike and we have plenty of things to try. We are fastest today, but it is what happens in the races that really matters. It has been hard work and it will be all weekend but I enjoy riding the challenge.” Byrne had set the pace in the morning session but was denied a repeat performance in the afternoon aboard his Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki as he prepared for races in which he is chasing a personal milestone of 50 MCE BSB victories. Byrne said: “I was happy with the session this afternoon; the times might not have shown it because we had a bit of traffic on our last run but it bodes well for tomorrow. We have a few small changes to make and then we will be in pretty good shape for the races.” The opposition was closing in this afternoon on the leading duo; James Ellison aboard the Milwaukee Yamaha and Tyco Suzuki’s Josh Brookes plus Buildbase BMW’s James Westmoreland and three-times title winner Ryuichi Kiyonari are all eager to maintain their position in the top six in the standings. On the opposite side of the Rapid Solicitors Kawasaki garage Keith Farmer escaped unscathed in a spectacular crash at th motorcycle racing parts e Avenue in the second session which wrecked his bike, giving the team considerable work to do. Ellison continued to build on his performance in the afternoon session after the morning free practice took place in drying conditions, adjustable levers, with the team waiting until conditions improved to head out on track. Waters had a challenging start to the weekend, ending the opening day in twentieth position. Ellison said: “I am happy enough with the day we have had and what we have been able to look at and also rule out for tomorrow. We had something we wanted to test this morning as we knew we had a base from when we were here earlier in the season and we were fortunate that we had that opportunity as we were able to quickly rule it out. This afternoon we went back to the settings we used from the previous round and we were back on the case. We still have some improvements to find but we feel happy enough ready for tomorrow.” Waters said: “We are still having a few problems and we have been working hard to make the difference for the races tomorrow. There are certain points on the circuit that are causing me more of a problem but tomorrow is another day and hopefully we can make up that difference ready for qualifying and the races.” For more information visit www.milwaukeeyamaha.com
