NHRA: Hight Takes zMax 4-Wide Funny Car Honors, adjustable clutch lever
The only thing that can stop Robert Hig Seat Covers ht these days is the finish line.Hight won his fourth consecutive Funny Car national event, going to victory lane Sunday in the 4-Wide NHRA Nationals at zMax Dragway.Hight became the fifth driver to win four Funny Car races in a row, joining John Force, Cruz Pedregon, Kenny Bernstein and Don Prudhomme. The last driver to win five in a row was Force – High's boss – in 1994. Hight can match that in the next NHRA race, O'Reilly Auto Parts Spring Nationals on April 27-29 at Royal Purple Raceway, site of Hight's first Funny Car win.The record for consecutive wins is seven by Prudhomme over the 1975-76 seasons."This is unbelievable," Hight said. "This class is so tough. Racing those three guys in the final, Cruz, (Ron) Capps, Force, those guys are all Hall of Famers. They're definitely guys that I grew up watching, adjustable motorcycle levers, and they all have more wins than me, so just to be out there racing those guys and to actually beat them is unbelievable"To win one of these races is tough, and to have four in a row, it's stuff that you don't even dream about. I don't see why we got to stop here, right? ... That's big time. I want to keep this going. It's not that easy to win out here, so you don't want to give this up. You may never win another one."Hight won on a holeshot in the final, beating Pedregon's better lap. Pedregon went 4.070 seconds at 316.75 mph but lost to Hight's 4.076 at 314.83 mph. Hight's left first, with a .058-second reaction tim motorcycle rear sets e, and held on for a .005-second margin of victory."I saw the win light on the wall but I am not sure that is even all programmed right, especially for the final," Hight said. "The other two rounds there are two win lights. I wasn't getting too excited yet, but Eric Lane, our back-up crew chief, he got on the radio and he was all excited. I knew I won by the sound of his voice."Hight came into the weekend having on motorcycle helmets for sale ly made one good pass in qualifying, but the way his Auto Club Mustang has been performing lately, he wasn't worried."I wasn't concerned at all," Hight said. "I have a lot of confidence in my team and what we have been doing. We were on the good side of a tune-up. That is an easy thing to fix. (Crew chief Jimmy Prock) saw the clouds this morning and he got excited. He was able to step all over it. We were really close to a three-second run there. We ran 320 mph (in the first round), and I don't know what I ran in the final because we just missed backing that up for a national record. We were like three tenths off."While Hight fell short of the national speed re Cycle Sector cord,Motorcycle Racing Parts, Massey broke the record in the Top Fuel final. He blitzed the track with a lap of 3.802 seconds at 332.18 mph, eclipsing his old record of 328.62 mph set in Pomona earlier this year. Massey also went 330.55 mph in the first round."It's unbelievable," Massey said. "Starting out run clutch lever ning 328 mph in qualifying and then coming up this morning and blistering a 330, and then just trying to go down the race track in the final and running 332 – we were just trying to go A to B and make them beat us. When I went across the finish line I didn't know who won until I made the turnoff, and it wasn't until they were giving me the trophy that they told me I'd run 332 mph."That's unreal. It just shows you how awesome this Prestone and Fram team of Phil Shuler and Todd Okuhar yamaha racing parts a is running. The car always pulls hard on every run, and on that 332 it never let up. It pulled as hard at the finish line as it did at 330 feet. You motorcycle stands know you're on a good run when it does that. You just have to be focused on the starting line and have your head in the game. It'll show you which driver knows what's going on at the 4-Wide Nationals. I love it."Massey, who took over the Top Fuel points lead, beat Don Schumacher Racing teammates Tony Schumacher and Antron Brown – as well as Doug Kalitta – in the final with a 3.802-second run. He was first off the line with a .037-second reaction time and was never headed.Greg Anderson won for the third time in Charlotte in cheap motorcycle jackets Pro Stock, but he wasn't the only one celebrating. Erica Enders turned on the only win light of the four drivers in the final, but a malfunction prevented Anderson's flashing win light from illuminating. Enders' crew celebrated her apparent first victory, but NHRA soon confirmed Anderson won."I am off to a good start this year," Anderson said. "I've been in three finals, and leading the points. I have a great race car and Jason (Line) has a great race car. The Summit team is on fire. These are two of the very best cars we've had."When you're racing four wide, you always feel like an underdog. Even if you have the fastest car, you have guys who cut .000 lights every time, and let's face it, I'm not one of those guys. I've complained about this (four-wide) concept but I guess it's time to embrace it."Enders had .037 seconds in the bank, but Anderson ran her down with a lap of 6.540 seconds at 212.23 mph, beating Enders' 6.608 at 210.93. Line red-lighted, and Vincent Nobile slowed with tire shake.
