Have a great week and we'll be back on Friday night as the Sharks host the Tigers. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:54pm: Sydney Roosters move to second position on the ladder while the Sea Eagles have lost touch with the leaders and are at risk of seeing a top-four finish slip from their grasp. It wasn't one the most entertaining performances but the hard-fought victory will be well received in the Roosters dressing room. Jared Warea Hargreaves received the man of the match award for his gritty performance which summed up the nature of the match. Meanwhile, Manly are now just one point above fifth and have won only one of their last five. They must bounce back against the Eels next week or they could be as low as seventh. The Roosters play the Dragons next week. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:53pm: 80th min: Glenn Stewart knocks-on to end a Manly attack. The Roosters can now breath a sigh of relief, they've won it! Upvotes:1 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:50pm: 77th min: The fat lady has been told to wait in the wings, at least for another three minutes. George Rose bundles over the line to give the Sea Eagles some hope. Lyon's kick is successful and they now trail by a converted try. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:49pm: 75th min: After some confusion and a series of knock-ons by both teams, Manly are awarded a scrum on their 30-metre line. The Sea Eagles faint hopes of a comeback are given a boost with consecutive penalties. They're now just ten-metres away from the try-line with a full set to come. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:1 Copy Link 8:45pm: 70th min: Jennings, limping,Michael Kors Handbags Outlet, scores his second try of the match to all but seal the win for the Roosters. SBW runs at the line and slices between two opponents but unsulfishly offloads to Jennings to score a simple try. Jennings finally receives medical attention after scoring and it appears that his left ankle is causing him problems. Roosters lead 18-6 after Cordner misses a difficult conversion attempt. Upvotes:1 Downvotes:1 Copy Link 8:42pm: 68th min: The injuries keep coming and it's a nervous moment for Blues coach Laurie Daley as Michael Jennings signals to the sideline. Hard to tell exactly what's happened but he limped off gingerly after tackling Jamie Buhrer. Upvotes:1 Downvotes:1 Copy Link 8:39pm: 66th min: Jake Friend and Brent Kite appear to come to blows but are quickly pulled back by their teammates. Friend slapped Watmough on the shoulder as he got up out of a tackle and Kite reacted. Interesting to see how the ref reacts given the new rules.Common sense prevails and it's just a penalty to the Roosters. Upvotes:1 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:35pm: 64th min: Mitchell Pearce bursts through the Manly line to score an emphatic four-pointer but the referee awards no try due to obstruction and seeks the confirmation of the video refere. No Try it is. Manly receive the penalty they should've had earlier. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:1 Copy Link 8:33pm: 63rd min: It's been a tough day for Brett Stewart in his return match and the Manly fullback is deemed to have knocked-on when defusing a Pearce bomb, despite being challenged in the air by Minichiello. The Roosters are gifted a scrum on the 10-metre line when perhaps Manly should've received a penalty. Roosters lead 14-6 Upvotes:0 Downvotes:1 Copy Link 8:29pm: 60th min: Cordner converts his first for the night and the Roosters lead 14-6. Upvotes:2 Downvotes:1 Copy Link 8:28pm: 59th min: Tough call against the Roosters. Warea Hargreaves is tackled high as he receives a pass but the referee awards a knock-on. Wait, what's this - the video referee has intervened and Justin Horo is placed on report and Easts get the penalty they deserve. They opt for two points in front of the sticks, but with their woeful success this evening you have to wonder if that was wise. Upvotes:2 Downvotes:1 Copy Link 8:25pm: 57th min: The Count plays a well-weighted kick into the in-goal and a strong chase forces Watmough over the line. Another set for the Roosters. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:24pm: 57th min: Warea-Hargreaves barges through Brenton Lawrence to force his way over the line but he's held up. The referee sends the matter to the video ref for confirmation but a red light is expected. NO TRY it is. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:21pm: 54th min: Pearce takes over kicking duties after Cordner's woes but he also misses from an easy angle. Roosters lead 12-6. On another night, they would be up by 12 and it would be close to curtains. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:20pm: 52nd min: TRY. Roosters Daniel Tupou races away from the half-way line and cuts inside to find Michael Jennings in support to score. What a sucker-punch for the Sea Eagles. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:19pm: 51st min: That try has given the Sea Eagles some life. There is more purpose in their attack and their kick chase is far more ruthless than in the first half. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:17pm: 49th min: Injury update,Michael Kors Outlet, Tuivasa-Sheck will not return to play due to the severity of the concussion. Manly's Hasson has reportedly been taken to hospital due to the head collision. Just to think that in the old days this would've been a case of play-on for those two. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:1 Copy Link 8:15pm: 48th min: TRY. Lyon scores and converts from the sideline to reduce the deficit to just two points.Roosters lead 8-6. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:14pm: 47th min: Manly look to have finally scored their first points of the night. Jamie Lyon has David Williams on his right but decides to go for it himself and disects Jennings and Tupou to go over the line. The referee sends it upstairs for confirmation but has initially awarded a try. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:12pm: The thoughts of Michael Carayannis up in the press box: "Wow. What a first half defensive effort from the Roosters. Their resolve to keep the Sea Eagles scoreless was season defining. As long as the defensive burden didn't take up too much of their energy, the Roosters should hold on and extend their lead. Manly are still a dangerous proposition. Brett Stewart needs to bob up more in the middle of the field." Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:10pm: Rugby league.. What a brutal game.. These guys earn every cent..— paul zalunardo (@zalman44) July 1, 2013 Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:07pm: 42nd min: A massive head collision leaves Tuivasa-Sheck and James Hasson both knocked-out on the turf. Hasson leaps out of the defensive line to tackle Tuivasa-Sheck but a sickening clash of heads echoed throughout the stadium and left the two concussed. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 8:04pm: 41st min:  We're back underway at Allianz. Cordner resumes the match and Manly have 40 minutes to overtun this deficit. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:53pm: Top three are streets ahead of everyone right now. Manly have dropped off big time recent weeks. #NRLSydMan— Jon Tuxworth (@Tuxy81) July 1, 2013 Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:50pm: 40th min: VIDEO REF- Jamie Lyon fools his opponents by shaping to kick on the fifth, only to turn and dart into space. He offloads to Buhrer to run to the line. Out of nowhere, Aidan Guerra produces a try-saving tackle and an error from Buhrer while over the line. The man upstairs produces the red-light and the Roosters defence is yet to be breached. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:47pm: 39th min: Daniel Mortimer has been taken from the field after finding himself sandwiched between two teammates while attempting to make a tackle. Boyd Cordner and Sam Moa collided either side of Mortimer to leave him on the floor seeing stars. Upvotes:1 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:46pm: 39th min: Manly force another goal-line drop-out after another encouraging set. Their expansive play is causing havoc for the Roosters defence but a try remains elusive. They will have one last set to score before the  break. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:44pm: 36th min: Manly begin to show some flare in their attack as Cherry-Evans becomes more involved close to the try-line. Their movement and quick passing is causing problems for the Roosters defence and Brett Stewart opens a gap for Jamie Buhrer. A return pass to Stewart surprises everyone, including the fullback as he knocks on metres away from the line. Roosters lead 8-0. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:39pm: 31st min: SBW spurns a great chance for the Roosters to extend their lead. A short pass deep in the Roosters half plays Williams through the line and the big five-eighth runs 60-metres unchallenged. With plenty of support on his left, Williams passes to Jennings as he encounters Manly fullback Brett Stewart but his wayward pass landed at Jennings' feet and the NSW centre couldn't handle it. A try goes begging. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:34pm: 27th min: Boyd Cordner misses another effort. You just wonder how much the absence of Maloney may come back to hurt the Roosters tonight. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:34pm: 26th min: Jake Friend scores a fantastic solo effort. The Roosters hooker picks the ball up from dummy-half and embarks on a 20-metre run to score left of the upright. Roosters lead 8-0 KTC. Upvotes:1 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:29pm: 21st min: Pearce dances through a host of Manly tacklers to find space in the middle of his field but is eventually wrapped-up by Ballin. His overzealous tackle gifts the Roosters a penalty. Manly's frustration is starting to simmer with Watmough penalised on the next tackle for lifting. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:24pm: 17th min: Seven-successive sets amount to nought for the Sea Eagles. Kite loses the ball in the tackle, much to the relief of the Roosters who have defended admirably. Roosters lead 4-0. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:23pm: 16th min: And another set for the Sea Eagles, Tuivasa-Sheck knocks-on in his own in goal but Pearce cleans up to rush the ball past the dead-ball line and concede a drop-out. How long can the Roosters hold on for? Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:21pm: 14th min: Matt Ballin has really stepped up with his playmaking duties in the absence of Foran. The Manly hooker displays his strength with his short kicking game to force a drop-out and the Manly's six successive set. It seems that a try is imminent. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:19pm: 11th min: Another knock by the Roosters and another set of six for Manly on the attacking 10-metre line. Kenny-Dowall opens up in an attempt tackle and intercepts a bullet-pass headed for Steve Matai. Had he not intervened,Michael Kors Handbags, it's likely that Matai would have crossed the try line. Roosters lead 4-0. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:18pm: 10th min: Manly will have a repeat set from close range after Tuivasa-Sheck's attempted intercept knocks the ball forward. The Roosters are under some pressure early on. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:15pm: 8th min: The Sea Eagles respond in spectacular fashion, Matt Ballin produces a superb 40-20 to move the visitors to within 10-metres of the try line. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:14pm: 6th min: TRY!  Pearce links up with SBW to move the ball quickly along the backline and a smart decoy exploits an overlap.Kenny-Dowall darts between two markers before passing to the open Tuivasa-Sheck who scores unchallenged in the corner. The conversion was unsuccessful and the Roosters lead 4-0. Upvotes:1 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:07pm: 1st min: We're off, Daly Cherry-Evans begins proceedings at Allianz Stadium. The Roosters have a decent set to open the game and Pearce opts to kick early in the tackle count from the 40-metre line in an attempt to catch Brett Stewart napping. Though, the Sea Eagles defence were prepared and now Manly has a set in decent field position. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 7:05pm: The Roosters welcome back the hard-hitting Jared Waerea hargreaves who has not played since he was sent off for a high shot the last time these two teams met. Manly fullback Brett Stewart takes to the field for the first time since round eight due to a back injury. It's not quite a top-of-the-table clash, but it's the next best thing as third plays fourth. The two teams are out on the field and kick-off is imminent. Upvotes:0 Downvotes:0 Copy Link 6:59pm: Good evening and welcome to Fairfax Media's live blog of the round 16 match between Sydney Roosters and Manly Sea Eagles at Allianz Stadium.Tonight was billed as a match between two close mates in Mitchell Pearce and Kieran Foran but the Manly five-eighth is a late withdrawel due to illness. Tom Symonds will wear shirt #15 to replace the Kiwi playmaker and will be partnered by the recent Origin debutant, Daly Cherry-Evans. There's also been a change in the halves for the Roosters with James Maloney ruled out. After an impressive game in his unusual position of halfback last week, SBW will shift into the halves as five-eight. Sidelined for eight weeks with a back injury, Stewart was not named on Tuesday but Manly are set to welcome him back on Monday night. The star fullback has been sorely missed by the Sea Eagles, who have managed only one win and a draw in his absence. The Roosters welcome their State of Origin duo Mitchell Pearce and Michael Jennings, but a cheekbone injury is set to rule out their NSW teammate James Maloney. Jared Waerea-Hargreaves returns from a five-match suspension. If the Roosters win this, it will be the first time they have beaten Manly twice in a season since 2003.Phil's tip: Roosters by four.AAP writes: Third hosts fourth in this highly anticipated blockbuster. The Roosters have been hit with a pre-game blow, five-eighth James Maloney likely out after suffering a suspected fractured cheekbone in Origin II. An interesting side plot is the return of Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, who copped a five match ban for his high shot on Sea Eagles forward George Rose in round nine. Both sides last played the Bulldogs, the Roosters escaping with a two point win, the Sea Eagles a two point loss - all signs point to another nail biter.Key: The battle between halfbacks and Origin II opponents Mitchell Pearce and Daly Cherry-Evans will likely tip the scales one way or another.ROOSTERS: Anthony Minichiello (capt), Daniel Tupou, Michael Jennings, Shaun Kenny-Dowall, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck, James Maloney, Mitchell Pearce, Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Jake Friend, Luke O'Donnell, Mitchell Aubusson, Sonny Bill Williams, Boyd Cordner.Interchange: Daniel Mortimer, Frank-Paul Nuuausala, Aidan Guerra, Sam Moa, Isaac Liu (one to be omitted). SEA EAGLES: Peta Hiku, Jorge Taufua, Jamie Lyon (capt), Steve Matai, David Williams, Kieran Foran, Daly Cherry-Evans, Brenton Lawrence, Matt Ballin, Brent Kite, Anthony Watmough, Justin Horo, Glenn Stewart. Interchange: Jamie Buhrer, Tom Symonds, James Hasson, George Rose.
