Pye are the winning team at 5-a-side finals in Quy.12-7-85.2806.85.746 ImagesThere’s a sporting flavour to our archive photo section this weekend.Tennis, cycling, football – and pram-racing – are all represented as we travel back to the 1970s, 80s and 90s.The tennis players,Toms Shoes Outlet, pictured in July, 1979,Cheap Toms,Toms Shoes Sale, are from the Perse Girls School in Cambridge, and Andy Murray-like, they are cradling an impressive trophy. Does anyone recognise any of the girls in the picture? The cyclists were in the saddle in July,Cheap Toms,Toms Shoes Sale, 1981, at St Neots youth centre, and they were undertaking a round-the-world bike ride, according to our records. Can anyone supply more information? We know the footballers – from July, 1985 – were the winners of a five-a-side competition held on the pitches at Stow-cum-Quy, and that they were from Cambridge’s electronics company Pye (which has featured in our pages a lot in recent weeks) – but we don’t know the names of any of the players, or who they beat to claim their trophy. The pram race is taking place in July, 1985, at Girton, so it is perhaps part of the annual village feast. This year’s feast week is just coming to a close, with a family fun day under way today on the rec, featuring a companion dog show, tug of war, belly dancing, music and sideshows. There will also be a fancy dress theme – Rio Carnival. More details of the event are at www.girtonfeast.org.uk.Two groups of children complete our line-up of photos this weekend. Are you one of the pupils pictured in a science lab at Comberton Village College, in July 1995? The youngsters had been carrying out an experiment using Barton’s Pendulums, which – we are sure readers will recall from their schooldays – are used to demonstrate resonance. Our other photo shows three young children sporting Support the Children’s Hospice T-shirts. The picture was taken for the Cambridge News in July 1986, when fundraising was under way for the hospice at Milton. _________________ People watching the forthcoming beginning of the German half of the inhabitants of Berlin are no interested in co-optation |
