After months of planning, 200 Taliban fighters left for Dera Ismail Khan a few hours before Iftar. En route they stopped somewhere between Tank and FR Tank. There, the fighters broke their fasts, said their prayers, and welcomed into their crew a man who goes by the name of Umar Khitab, and who would be the operational commander of the plan. Their mission: rescue and bring back 48 very valuable comrades imprisoned in the Dera Ismail Khan jail. The daring attack was the brainchild of one Adnan Rasheed, who recently gained international fame for a near-apologetic letter to Malala Yousufzai, in which he explained, to the best of his abilities, discount moncler jackets, why Malala had been shot in the face. But Adnan’s an old hand at terrorism, and was himself serving time in Bannu prison for his assassination attempt on then president General Pervez Musharraf. That is, till he himself was jail broken, along with hundreds of other terrorists.Adnan didn’t take part in the actual operation though. He left that to Umar Khitab, who is the leader of the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan’s Gandapur faction. Adnan’s plan was intricate: the 200-strong team was broken into three groups, moncler sale, discount moncler jackets, packed like sardines into twenty vehicles and each took a different route to the same destination. The routes went through the regions of Darra Pezu, FR Lakki and FR Tank. The mission’s objectives were crystal clear: there were 48 very important comrades currently held captive in the prison, and they were to be freed and brought back. Out of the 48,moncler outlet, the three most valuable ones were Haji Mohammad Ilyas, Commander Abdul Haqeem and Waleed Akbar. All these comrades hailed from, and were active in Quetta, Dera Ismail Khan, and the agencies of Bajaur and Khyber. Till their capture and captivity, these three had been playing a leading role in the continuing Shia genocide in the area. The attacking squad was armed to the hilt, with suicide attackers, rocket launchers, hand grenades, and automatic weapons. The one piece of equipment in their use that stood out was night vision goggles, which allowed the attackers a crystal clear green view in the dark of the night. It’s not that the attack caught the local authorities with their pants down. Actually yes it did. It wasn’t an intelligence failure, though, but a security failure on the part of the provincial government. On the 26th, 27th, and 28th of July, three top-secret urgent memos were sent from local intelligence authorities to the provincial government, repeatedly warning that an attempt on the jail was imminent. But nothing happened. Well, a lot happened. But nothing from the provincial government’s side. The attack commenced around half past 11 at night. Rather than attack from different sides, the attackers came through the main entrance. Contrary to media reports, moncler down jackets, no suicide attackers were used; the jail’s defences were so sparse, the need didn’t arise. The jail defenders had nearly obsolete weaponry with only a handful of Kalashnikovs. Some poor souls only had sticks to defend the jail and themselves with. Many, when they saw the superior weaponry of the attackers, simply threw down their weapons, and stood aside. The attackers made their way, without much resistance, into the prison and started searching for their comrades. During the search, a team came across a captive by the name of Khalifa Abdul Qayyum, moncler down jackets, moncler on sale, an ex-MPA from Dera Ismail Khan and also allegedly associated with a banned terrorist organisation whose claim to fame is a major attack in Mumbai. Although his name wasn’t in the list, they offered to set him free, but he politely refused and remained seated in his cell.Within half an hour, they were on their way back – with the 48 they came for, and another 194 for good measure. However, the number of passengers had greatly increased for the 20 cars the attackers had come with. Hence, some were pushed off, others weren’t let on, and a few were shot dead. The return route was the same as when they came, but with one exception: the meeting point for all three groups was FR Tank’s exit point into Waziristan. Once everyone had reached the rally point, the convoy became one, moncler on sale, and they victoriously returned home, where they were given heroes’ welcome. Later, moncler sale, Adnan Rasheed and Umar Khitab contacted members of the local media, and told them that the operation had been a complete and utter success. Adnan claimed that it was even better the Bannu jailbreak because the Taliban had minimal losses and were able to exactly get what they came for. They closed the interaction with a grizzly warning: “We know where our brothers are being held captive in jails across the country. It is part of our jihad to help free our brothers and rest assured that we will free them, moncler outlet, soon.”The writer is a media consultant and trainer.
