{Joe Fresh hires U.S. operations officer to go global}

Fashion industry news source WWD.com quoted creative director Joe Mimran as saying he has hired Mario Grauso as chief operating officer,michael kors canada, a new position created to help establish the brand internationally.“The company has gotten to a size where we really felt we needed a chief operating officer to help me continue to grow the business and take it to the next level,Michael Kors Handbags Outlet,” WWD quotes Mimran as saying.Grauso, who was most recently president of the Vera Wang Group, will report directly to Mimran beginning Oct. 7, according to WWD, and would be responsible for overseeing daily operations,Michael Kors Handbags, new strategic partnerships and Joe Fresh’s global retail expansion.A spokesman from Joe Fresh said Tuesday Mimran is on vacation and could not be reached for comment. Grauso did not return a request for comment from the Star.WWD quotes Grauso as saying he saw room for Joe Fresh standalone stores in at least 20 U.S. cities and in additional Canadian cities and that Asia is an obvious first step for the brand overseas.“I think it’s great. That’s what you have to do. You have to hire somebody who’s done it. I think some of the problem with Canadians trying to do global expansion is they think they can do it the way they’ve done it at home,” said Maureen Atkinson, senior partner at J.C. Williams Group,Michael Kors Outlet, global retail consultants.The brand can mostly be found within Loblaw grocery stores, but there are 15 standalone stores in Canada and six stores in New York and Long Island. As of this week, Joe Fresh customers in Canada can also shop online.“You try to establish the brands in as many ways as you can. I think having a transactional website is really quite a part of that,” said Atkinson.Joe Fresh expanded into 683 J.C. Penney locations in the U.S. in March. But J.C. Penney is struggling to survive after former CEO Ron Johnson, the man behind the successful Apple store design, was brought in to build sales, but was ousted after less than 18 months at the helm. Johnson alienated core shoppers and failed to attract new ones in significant numbers.“I think the thing with J.C. Penney — it still remains to be seen how that’s all going to fall out. It’s certainly not the best of times for them, but I think you have to try lots of different things. Some things will work and some of them won’t,” said Atkinson.In February, Grauso, who began his career as an intern at Ralph Lauren, stepped down as president of Vera Wang Group, where he was credited with growing the brand globally. Before that, he was president of Carolina Herrera Ltd., overseeing the Nina Ricci and Paco Rabanne fashion houses.Mimran founded Club Monaco in 1984 and sold it to Ralph Lauren Polo Corporation in 2000.
