Events are held in North, South and Central America as well as the Caribbean. So people can see these birds and learn more about them. On our island,[url=http://www.mcm-handbags.net]mcm bags[/url], the event will take place on Sunday, September 29, from 8:00 to 11:00am at the mangrove discovery trail on Étang de la Barrière in French Cul-de-Sac (right next to the Pinel ferry dock).This pond, along with other ponds and marine areas on the island, has been recognized as an internationally important wetland by RAMSAR. It is home to over two dozen species of birds, including the whimbrel and black-bellied plover that were featured in this column in previous weeks. Many of the birds found there are migratory visitors to our island.Earlier this year, the Réserve Naturelle and the Conservatoire du Littoral completed a raised boardwalk through this wetland, enabling close-up views of birds and other wildlife. Educational signage in French and English describes the wildlife and explains the importance of mangrove wetlands as a habitat for birds, baby fish and many other species. The site was recently added to the Caribbean Birding Trail, a collection of the best birding sites in the Caribbean. At the free event, guests will be able to see many of these great voyagers, including plovers, sandpipers and other shorebirds. Guided tours of the site will be available in English, French and Dutch. Attendees will learn the life stories of these astounding birds and what they do when they get to our island. Be sure to bring your camera, as this site is excellent for bird photography. There will also be refreshments and a variety of activities for children.
