August 26 from this year forward can be remembered not only as Araw ng mga Bayani but also as Araw ng Bayanihan when thousands of Filipinos throughout the Philippines and abroad assembled or expressed their unity, through assembly,Toms Shoes Outlet, through social media,Toms Shoes Sale, through prayers and other forms, for the abolition of the pork barrel, for the abolition of corruption in this country.Seeing and experiencing unity, walking comfortably and feeling one with complete strangers but sharing the same goal -- to dismantle corruption in our midst -- is a unique type of blessing that all Filipinos deserve to give to themselves more often.August 26th morning, the participants had already started to move from Fuente Osmeña towards Plaza Independencia. From a distance were those who could not walk the long distance due to some physical difficulty. They were there to send off the rest of their kababayans with their prayers and their presence. The participants came from various sectors and from all walks of life. Regardless of differences, all wore white,Toms Shoes Sale, a symbol of their united stand vs pork barrel abusers, vs. pork barrel, vs. corruption. There were the students who said they came because they were Filipinos and they met their fellow students during the assembly. There were students from UP, USC,Toms Shoes Outlet, UC and other schools. There were employees, professionals, those from media and even cause-oriented organizations who joined as individuals,Cheap Toms, as Filipinos. One beside me was a Spanish teacher at one of the Cebu universities. He came alone and he came because he is Filipino, he said, and to make a stand, to make his presence count and to unite with all other Filipinos who gathered for this occasion. The religious were represented as well. Some politicians could not help but be present at the Plaza, despite repeated requests for them not to involve themselves in this activity. Gratefully, they did not make speeches nor make any demands. There were members of genuine NGOs as well, those who have long served our people with just their continued commitment. There were families who came as well, a number with their pets wearing anti-pork slogans! It was a happy, feel good event.Seeing so many march and assemble because of their own free will, because of their common desire to have pork abolished, because of their commitment as Filipinos, dancing and raising fists and shouts for pork abolition and keeping the protest on the level of issues, not personalities, that August 26th assembly in Cebu City was certainly a first of its kind. Despite the thousands who joined, the premises were kept clean - a tribute to all the participants who wore white, who wished to purify this nation of thieves, of abusers and of the greedy, who walked their talk and who embodied their commitment not only in thoughts, words but in deeds as well. That August 26th event in Cebu City was made more memorable by the massive turnout elsewhere in Luneta, in Bohol, in Davao, in other parts of the Philippines and in various parts of the world where our Filipinos are. Galing talaga ng Filipino! Mabuhay ang Filipino! PADAYON! There is so much hope and good people, many genuine and marangal na Filipino in our land, praise the Lord!August 26 will not only be a national commemoration. From here on, those who participated and experienced joining and uniting with all other Filipinos within and outside our country will forever cherish that feel-good moment in their hearts.Beyond August 26, there is much more vigilance and advocacy required of all Filipinos. Beyond the assembly, the prayers, the commitment, we need to ensure the total abolition of pork now! We need to closely monitor the abuses of the greedy by understanding and demanding the full disclosure of all public funds allocation, disbursement and use.Lacierda said Malacañang is waiting for clear proposals from us about the concrete alternatives to take. It's time to regroup again and to make and send those clear proposals soonest to Malacañang. There's much more to do from here on but gratefully, Filipinos took the initial step to expressing their outrage vs public fund abuse! Time to take the next steps forward to make this nation a responsive, responsible one that all Filipinos will be proud of. PADAYON!***E-mail at cherryb_thefreeman@yahoo.com.
