Dear Editor,After reading the article in The Daily Herald on Wednesday, moncler on sale, moncler outlet как было установлено, 28 August, with regard to the call for a referendum on St. Eustatius, the question that comes to mind is what is the rush? I personally believe it would be a waste of time and money. The Island should first await the outcome of the evaluation, before having a referendum regarding our constitutional status. What percentage of the signatures was collected on Island, and how many signed up via the Internet? Is the group trying to impress the people of Statia with 800 signatures and should we forget about simple commonsense? There are signatures of people, moncler sale, who can't even vote in a referendum, simply because they don't live here. Are we afraid that the results of the evaluation may sway the opinion of the voters? What about the citizens that favour the current status; don't they have the right to make an informed decision? I can't get over the fact that people make a call for a referendum without a better option in mind. Even the government does not have a position regarding the better choice for the people of Statia in a constitutional referendum. The Commissioner would have mentioned the position of government in the article, or it would be mentioned in its governing program, which doesn't exist. Where is the vision? Why did our good commissioner question our Prime Minister, if Holland would entertain independence for Statia? I personally believe that our government has a hidden agenda and is afraid to announce to the public that it is favouring the options of Separate Status, moncler outlet, Full Independence or Independence with a form of free association. In all three of these options, moncler outlet 51 min, we must be able to foot the bill ourselves. After leaving the constellation of a cash-strapped Netherlands Antilles, moncler down jackets, why would Statia choose to be a cash-strapped entity? A referendum now is a waste of time and money. Let us put our efforts and energy into solving some of the problems that we face with our new status to the benefit of our people. In the beginning we had a lot of problems with the new healthcare system. Today there are still problems, but it is functioning many times better than before 10-10-10. What is the rush? To evaluate the new status properly, we need time to understand what the benefits and the drawbacksare.Besides that, many of the problems we face are not at all related to our constitutional status, so changing the status won't solve the problems. Another compelling argument toward maintaining and improving our current status is the fact that right now we have most of our eggs divided over two baskets, namely Holland and NuStar Terminals. Drop Holland and all we have is NuStar Terminals, imagine that scenario. This decision is a very simple one and I don't intend to try to convince anyone to believe what I say; we all must decide for ourselves what is best for Statia. If you are swayed by emotional arguments that we must decide everything ourselves and that Holland has too much power etc...; my brothers and sisters, that is up to you.Ernie SimmonsMember and strong supporter of theDemocratic Party of St.Eustatius Editorial - On the way down?
