CW Evaluation: Aerostich Mini Compressor A tire pump that travels well, motorcycle mufflers.
Andy Goldfine, honcho of Aerostich, is a deeply philosophical man SportBike Levers , which a glance at his catalog shows. Throughout the catalog is evidence of his belief that whatever motorcyclists need should be rugged, simp Motorcycle lever le and as light as possible.Hence, it’s no surprise that Goldfine’s solution to the flat-tire problem includes his lightweight, built-to-spec Mini Compressor. There’s no fancy case for it, no fancy anything, in fact; just a Chinese-made 12-v motorcycle brake lever olt pump you hang by the included carabiner from something handy on the motorcycle clutch bike—a footpeg bracket, maybe—then clamp the air line to the Schrader valve of the tire and plug in the power line to the bike’s battery. Roll the rotary switch to “on,” and the little pump begins furiously and heatedly hammering away.Obv Street Bike Levers iously, before this compressor becomes useful, you have to remedy the reason the tire lost air in the first pl adjustable handle ace—puncture, faulty Schrader valve, etc. Not having an actual flat tire, we simulated a few by using the Mini Compressor to pump up tires mounted on a BMW K1200R, Can-Am Spyder and Honda CRF250X. The speed with which the compressor worked was—as you’d expect—determined by the battery condition of the bike to which it was attached, but the gizmo never failed to bring the tire back up to full pressure. In an interview about how he came to make the compressor, Goldfine said he was concerned about the heat generated by the compressor itself (typical of all such compressors). His solutions—a carabiner and a soft bag designed to package up a still-hot compressor successfully when you’re in a hurry—are typically simple, light and practical. Our conclusion: If the mission requires being fully equipped wh adjustable Lever ile packing light, the Mini Compressor is the right tool for the job.DETAILSAerostich/RiderWearHouse8 South 18th Ave. WestDuluth, MN 55806218/722-1927www.aerostich.comPrice…$47.00• A well-thought-out solution to a potentially serious problem• Long air racing lever and power lines• Hefty rubber band and a heat-resistant bag keep storage simple• Only works on a bike with a battery• No sex appeal --> |
